Title: iCloud Syning between iOS and OS X.
Post by: ForeverTangent on February 23, 2016, 04:47:47 PM

I know that the iCloud syncing for inShort is still is a 'Beta' state, but can I get some insight to what is going on?

I can get my diagrams to sync between my iOS devices, most of the time, but I can't seem to figure out the trick to get things to sync between iOS and OS X versions.

I usually have to turn off iCloud syncing on the OS X version and turn it back on to force an update.   If I have to do something like that, there might as well be a 'update' button on the front of the UI.

I think part of the problem, is when I have been successful, iOS diagrams show up in OS X, under a Shared Folder.  As a UI design this sort of breaks the flow for me. The OS X version has the 'Desktop' diagram, but if 'shared' diagrams are going to be partitions, I would rather see a separate diagram space to help indicate it is a 'shared' object.

I love inShort but the iCloud part is the weirdest part right now, and I think it only part that is really holding it back from it going to the next level.

Just some thoughts/questions.

iCloud remains the most unreliable technology in the entire Apple infrastructure, unfortunately, there's no better alternative yet. I'm constantly working on improving the synchronisation, but the current progress does not allow to assume that I have reached a stable solution.

Here, several negative factors were weaved: the complexity of the data structure, rawness of the technology and its inconsistency with the nature of tasks.

However, I'm going to make some improvements, which give me a moderate hope.

I hope the syncing becomes a lot easier. Maybe use Dropbox? Right now, I'm having to use the iOS/OS X completely separately. I feel like I need to pick one or the other to commit to since there is no syncing. It would be so great to be able to work on my diagrams on my computer and my phone instead of having to only use one. :)

I am curious how this is comping along.  I do not see any settings related with iCloud sync on either the iOS device or MacOS device.  The help is of no specific help either...  So I need some help here.

Okay, I found it in the settings/preference.

Edit 2:
Don't see any specific folder under the iCloud drive, how is it supposed to work?

I don't know if anything more is being done with this.  I can set sync of version on the iPhone and they appear on the Mac version.  Any I create and set sync on the Mac version, or any update I do on the Mac to a diagram shared from iOS will not appear or update on the iOS.   (on a share from Mac OS I see a folder in iOS, but not what's in it.

That said, it used to be that I could email a .ish and InShort was on the list that could open it.  That's gone so, as the user above stated, there appears no actual way to start a diagram on one device and then use or finish it on another.
